Health Ministry Spokesman and Medical Research Institute Deputy Director Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara yesterday told the media that Sri Lanka is in a position to battle the new COVID-19 cluster and to contain outbreaks of the virus in occupational settings. “In order to combat the current spread of the virus, and to prevent the emerging COVID-19 cases from the new cluster, the people must promote themselves to put in place a pandemic response mechanism to ensure that they do not spread the virus as part of their activities,” Dr. Bandara said.

A Kelaniya University student has tested positive for Covid-19 virus, it was reported yesterday. She is the daughter of a Minuwangoda Brandix factory employee. Her father had earlier tested positive for the virus while her mother and younger sister had tested negative so far. She is a resident of Minuwangoda area and has been studying in the Sociology Faculty’s Statistics Department, University’s senior lecturer and spokesman Wijayananda Rupasinghe told the Daily News.

An employee of SriLanakn airline at SriLankan Cargo operations division at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake tested positive for COVID-19 virus this morning, SriLankan Airlines said.
Hela Clothing, an apparel manufacturing group, said that an employee at its Thihariya plant tested positive for Covid-19 on October 11.
