SLFP splinter group lashes out at party leadership

The National Organization for the Protection of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), a splinter group of the SLFP, lashed out at the party leadership saying they had set the path for the destruction of the party.

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Parliamentarian Kumara Welgama slammed the decision to back Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the 16 November election.

Speaking at a convention staged by the National Organization for the Protection of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in Colombo today, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said that New Democratic Front Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa had better policies than Rajapaksa.

She criticized the decision by President Maithripala Sirisena, as SLFP leader, to back Rajapaksa at the election.

She also said that SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera cannot take any action against her.

Welgama also slammed Jayasekera saying that after the election Jayasekera will be thrown out of the SLFP.

He also insisted that he will not support any political party but will use his vote on election day.
