කතාබහට ලක්ව ඇති මිලේනියම් චැලෙන්ජ් කෝපරේෂන් ගිවිසුම පිළිබඳ අද (05) පැවැත්වෙන කැබිනට් රැස්වීමේදි යළි සාකච්ඡාවට ලක් කෙරෙනු ඇතැයි දේශපාලන ආරංචි පවසනවා. එම ගිවිසුම සඳහා ඉකුත් සතියේ පැවති කැබිනට් රැස්වීමේදී අමාත්‍ය මණ්ඩලයේ අනුමැතියද හිමි වුණා. කෙසේවෙතත් පාර්ශ්ව රැසකින් එල්ල වු විරෝධතා හමුවේ ජනාධිපතිවරයා මුදල් අමාත්‍ය මංගල සමරවීරට දැනුම් දී තිබුණේ ජනාධිපතිවරණයට පෙර අදාළ ගිවිසුම අත්සන් නොකරන ලෙසයි.

Kulasinghe Activity Park built at the Planetarium premises to mark the birth centenary of reputed Engineering wizard A.N.S.Kulasinghe. The Election Commission yesterday withdrew the ban on live political programmes by the State-owned Independent Television Network (ITN) network admitting that such a move that is applicable to only one media network was deemed unreasonable.

The Police will deploy nearly 2,000 recruits from Police Training Colleges across the island for election duty, Police Spokesman SSP Ruwan Gunasekara said. According to Gunasekara this will be the first time that new recruits will be deployed for election duties. “The decision was taken as the Police intends to deploy officers in full strength to ensure a free and fair election,” he said.

Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya came under heavy criticism over a letter he issued last night, purportedly on behalf of the Elections Commission, directing the State-owned Independent Television Network (ITN) station to desist from airing any live political programs, and instructing the station to clear the content of all political programs with the Elections Commission. The reason, Deshapriya said in his letter, was that the Commission had received a complaint that such a program aired on ITN had caused duress to presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
