Govt. loses over Rs. 200 Mn. due to RDA bigwigs

An investigation by the National Audit Office has revealed that the government has lost over Rs. 200 million due to the increase in salaries and allowances of 174 bigwigs at the Road Development Authority (RDA), which falls under the Ministry of Highways headed by Johnston Fernando.

An official of the National Audit Office said that the loss was due to the payment of salaries violating regulations of the Management Services Department.

It is said that these high payments were made in 2020.

Meanwhile, the Audit Officers say that the recruitment procedure approved by the Management Services Department for recruitments, promotions and transfers of the RDA has not been followed during this period.

According to a National Audit Office report, a staff of 13,000 islandwide has been approved for the RDA.
