Rs.5,000 allowance to cover up online charges: Edu. Minister

The decision was taken to pay an allowance of Rs. 5,000 for two months for teachers and principals as relief from their salary anomalies and to cover the expenses incurred on online teaching, Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said.

The official statement will be made after the upcoming budget proposal during the first week of November and their salary increment will be paid in four stages, the minister said.

"Until the budget proposal is submitted, the Rs.5,000 relief allowances will be paid for teachers and principals to conduct their online activities and to cover the expenses incurred on the internet usage for two months," the Minister said.

However, the Cabinet ministers had agreed to solve their salary anomaly. They can accept the allowance and it's their choice. We are not going to force them to do it," the Minister added.
