The Health Ministry has decided to set a maximum price for Rapid Antigen Tests and PCR tests carried out by private healthcare services, Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.
Accordingly, she said Rs. 6,500 has been set for a PCR test while the maximum price for an Antigen test is Rs. 2,000.
The relevant Gazette notification will be issued by the Consumer Affairs Ministry tomorrow (12).
It has been revealed in a recent survey that private sector hospitals have charged Rs. 5,550 to 9,750 for a PCR test while Rs 2,000 to 5,550 for an Antigen test.
The Health Minister said this had caused injustice for people and therefore, they had decided to set a maximum price for PCR and Antigen tests in order to prevent undue and unfair price changes. (Daily Mirror)
