Air Quality at ’moderate Level’ in Colombo

The quality of air in Colombo and suburbs in the coming days is to remain at ‘Moderate Level’, Senior Scientist of the Air Quality Unit at the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) H.D.S. Premasiri said.

Mr. Premasiri told the Daily Mirror that this indicates that air is not vulnerable to be high pollution but there is a risk for unusually sensitive people to air pollution.

"The reason for the slight improvement of the air quality was less vehicular movement owing to COVID-19 situation in the country," he said.

According to data on airvisual. com, the air quality in Colombo will be at ‘Moderate Level’ until August 18 indicating the Air Quality Index between 55 to 70.

The air quality between 0 to 50 is considered to be good, 50 to 100 moderate and over 100 to be unhealthy.

The air quality in Colombo remained at unhealthy state on several days in the months of January, February and March this year. Thereafter, it remains at either good or moderate levels due to restrictions and lockdowns imposed in meantime. (Daily Mirror)
