Limited bus, train service between provinces from tomorrow: Dilum

After having relaxed the travel restrictions, a limited number of inter-provincial buses and trains have been permitted to operate from tomorrow, Transport State Minister Dilum Amunugama said.

Addressing the media, he said the buses and trains should be operated strictly adhering to health guidelines.

"The only people who have essential duties are permitted to travel. Those people should present the documents that prove the need for their service to private and government institutions. Those who do not possess the relevant documents will not be allowed to travel, "the State Minister said.

Despite requests to lift the travel laws on July 19, the health sector has not yet approved it, he said.

"It is compulsory to allow the passengers with seating capacity even within the province and on inter-provincial travel. Tough action will be taken against the bus owners and operators for transporting more than the seating capacity. Their route permits will be cancelled, "the Minister said.

Therefore, the State Minister requested the bus operators and the owners to adhere to the health guidelines without being instrumental in inviting the fourth wave of the COVID virus. (Daily Mirror)
