Except for the lions, no other animals in the Dehiwala National Zoological Garden were reported to have been contracted coronavirus, Wildlife State Minister Wimalaweera Dissanayake said.
He said the lion ‘Thor’ and the lioness 'Sheena' were infected by the virus. Thor has recovered, and Sheena is back to her normal routine.
However, no other animal has been reported to have tested COVID positive so far.
"We have been working on the safety of the animals. We have delegated the responsibility of the animals to different people."There has been no report of any zoo employee infected from the lions," Minister Dissanayake said.
Moreover, he said that the officers of the Dehiwala Zoo have always worked for the safety of the animals. (Daily Mirror)
