Speaker Karu Jayasuriya yesterday informed Parliament that leaders of the political parties which represent the House will meet today to decide on the date when the no-confidence motion submitted by the joint opposition against Minister of Industry and Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons, Cooperatives Development and Skills Development Rishad Bathiudeen.

Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, who is facing a no-confidence motion is reported to have told the Cabinet today that he would step down from his post if President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe asked him to do so.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) yesterday warned the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) that any attempt to seek an extension of President Maithripala Sirisena’s term will undermine ongoing talks to form a coalition.

While saying that it was unfair to find fault with someone like Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, who has not been found guilty, Plantation Minister Navin Dissanayake said yesterday Minister Bathiudeen turned emotional when he spoke at the Cabinet meeting about the false allegations levelled against him.

ආණ්ඩුවට මෙන්ම බදියුදීන්ට එරෙහිව ගෙනා විශ්වාසභංග දෙකම පරාජය කරන බව එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂයේ මහලේකම් අධ්‍යාපන අමාත්‍ය අකිල විරාජ් කාරියවසම් මහතා අද(22) පැවසීය.

It is said that the cabinet of ministers has approved granting of a monthly transport allowance of 2 lakhs to 46 MPs of the UNP.
