Former defence secretary - Gotabaya Rajapaksa who was elected as the 7th executive president of Sri Lanka has pledged to uphold the public's faith placed on him.
He was speaking at a post election media briefing held at the Election Commission, in the presence of all candidates and the Election commissioner.
Speaking further, Mr. Rajapaksa said that he would fulfill all pledges stated in his manifesto.
Addressing the media gathering, the Election commissioner - Mahinda Deshapriya urged Mr. Rajapaksa to hold the provincial council elections, which were made to disappear. In response, Mr. Rajapaksa said he would fully cooperate to hold the necessary elections at the designated time.
