United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka meets with Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, the Speaker.
 
United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka Mr. Marc-André Franche Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, met the Speaker recently (22) in Parliament. During the amiable discussions held, the parties discussed aspects pertaining to the recent Bills passed in Parliament, proposed legislation, the progress of the Parliamentary Development Action Plan (PDAP), the Parliamentary process etc.

 The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Mr. Marc-André Franche highlighted particulars discussed with the Chairperson of the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus Member of Parliament Hon. (Dr.) Sudarshini Fernandopulle and the members of caucus previously and extended appreciation towards the efforts and work carried out by the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus.

Furthermore, Mr. Marc-André Franche also inquired the process and status public participation and consultations when presenting and passing of legislation. Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera elaborated on the Committee process and also emphasized on the participation of youth representatives at the Sectoral Oversight Committees. The Secretary General further highlighted the process of how consultations and inputs from the civil society, youth and experts are incorporated via the said Committees when legislating.
The two parties further fostered a discussion regarding the contemporary context of AI during elections.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mr. Marc-André Franche and the Hon. Speaker further discussed regarding the progress of the Parliamentary Development Action Plan (PDAP). Mr. Marc-André Franche ensured constant support to Parliament in its activities.
