The postal department is to grant a grace period up to April 23 for the traffic penalty charge sheets issued by the police on April 11 and 12, Postmaster General Ranjith Ariyaratne said.
Due to the government's declaration of April 11 and 12 as public holidays, people were unable to pay their panelties to the post offices. Hence, the postal department will grant a grace period until April 23 without additional penalty, he said.
According to Section 215(a) of the Motor Traffic Act, and subject to the Finance Ministry Secretary's cover approval, a grace period of up to April 23 has been granted to pay these fines, regardless of the period of multiple fines, the PMG added.
The fine forms issued from March 29 to April 10 (including those two days) can be paid at any post office or sub post offices up to April 23 minus surcharge, the PMG emphasized. (Daily Mirror)
