The programme to administer vaccines to shield against COVID-19 for all teachers in the country will commence from tomorrow (12), Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said.
Addressing the media today, he said after vaccinating teachers, the Ministry will be able to reopen schools with students lesser than 100.
The Government is hoping to reopen 2,962 schools with lesser than 100 students within the month of August, the Minister said.
"The vaccination programme for the officers of the Examinations Department and Education Ministry kicked off today as the first step to restart the education structure and resume school education," he said.
Accordingly, the Ministry is hoping to vaccinate 242,000 teachers in all schools, including private schools. Moreover, all principals and all non-academic staffers in 10,155 schools, will get their vaccines, the minister added. (Daily Mirror)
