China steps into assist Sri Lanka fight Covid-19 at decisive moment

At a time where Sri Lanka anticipating a peak in Covid-19 crisis by next moth , Chinese Republic, a friend in need of the island nation has stepped in to assist the country tackle the epidemic.

Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) predicted that number of corona virus patients will rise to its maximum by the first week of May.

GMOA General Secretary Haritha Aluthge revealed that normally a peak in Covid-19 patients could be expected 50 days after the detection of the first patient in any country.

At this critical juncture, China has dispatched over 20,000 test kits to Sri Lanka to help fight the corona virus and this stock is expected to arrive in the island tomorrow.

The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka tweeted saying 20,064 test kits donated by Jack Ma, a Chinese business magnate, is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka tonight (Friday).The embassy said that the consignment is worth USD 130, 000.

The 20,064 test kits twill arrive from Shanghai and will be donated to the Health Ministry .The test kits are produced by DAAN Gene Co., a listed company with a market value over $1.2 Billion.

China has already provided 1,000 corona virus test kits and 50,000 medical face masks to Sri Lanka last month.

China has decided to make the donation as the first step to help Sri Lanka combat a possible outbreak of the corona virus.
China will continue to share its experience in the prevention, control and treatment of the COVID-19, and will continue to provide help within its capacity through various channels.

On a request made by the Sri Lankan government China has urgently provided a concessionary loan of US$ 500 million with a term of 10 years, to help Sri Lanka financially to better respond to the current COVID–19 pandemic.
