CareEdge Analytics & Advisory and DevPro will conduct an online IFRS S1 & S2 Capacity Building Program under the theme “From Standards to Strategy and Disclosure” on 17, 19, 24 and 26 November and 1 December 2026.
Designed to build practical capability of businesses in applying the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, the program comprises four modules delivered through five interactive online sessions, held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sri Lanka time. The sessions will cover sustainability and climate-related risks and opportunities, governance, strategy, risk management, metrics and targets, and practical reporting readiness.
For Sri Lankan businesses, IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 (adopted locally as SLFRS S1 and SLFRS S2) are becoming increasingly important because they provide a globally recognized framework for disclosing sustainability and climate-related risks that may affect a company’s financial performance, cash flows, and long-term value creation. As international investors, lenders, customers, and supply chain partners place greater emphasis on ESG performance and climate resilience, Sri Lankan companies that align with these standards can enhance transparency, improve stakeholder confidence, strengthen access to capital, and remain competitive in global markets. The standards also help organizations integrate sustainability risks and opportunities into strategic decision-making, risk management processes, and corporate governance structures.
From a regulatory perspective, Sri Lanka has formally adopted the ISSB standards through SLFRS S1 and SLFRS S2, effective from 1 January 2025, with a phased implementation roadmap introduced by CA Sri Lanka. Under this roadmap, compliance becomes mandatory for the largest listed entities first and is gradually extended to all listed companies and other corporates by 2030. This reflects a broader shift toward mandatory sustainability disclosure and increased regulatory oversight of climate-related and sustainability-related information. Consequently, Sri Lankan businesses that proactively prepare for SLFRS S1 and S2 will be better positioned to meet emerging compliance requirements, respond to investor scrutiny, and demonstrate alignment with global sustainability reporting expectations.
